Korumburra Staying Strong officially concluded its five-year journey in 2026, following the completion of the funded resilience project supported by the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR).

The group was originally formed after Korumburra was selected to participate in an FRRR program focused on building community resilience. Over five years, the project provided an opportunity to listen to the community, explore local needs and better understand what helps build resilience in Korumburra. One of the strongest themes to emerge throughout the process was the importance of community connection.

Over the course of the project, several initiatives were explored. While not every initiative unfolded as originally planned, the challenges encountered were an important part of the journey and helped strengthen understanding of what meaningful community resilience looks like in practice.

The key achievements of Korumburra Staying Strong were:

  • The redesign of the KCDA Korumburra Community website, korumburra3950.com.au

  • Access to this was provided by Korumburra Community Development Association, and they continue to manage this website.

  • The development of the Korumburra Resilience & Emergency Plan

  • The creation of the Korumburra Community Directions Statement

Although the Korumburra Staying Strong group has now formally come to an end, the work developed through the project will continue within other local organisations. The Community Directions Statement will be supported by the Korumburra Round Table, the Emergency Resilience Plan will continue to be reviewed annually through Milpara Community House in partnership with South Gippsland Shire Council, and the Korumburra Community website is owned and managed by the Korumburra Community Development Association.
